Gowda Saraswath Brahmin(GSB) community in the history of Kerala-II
"When the Konkanis first came to Cochin territory, they requested that they should be protected by the kings of Cochin just as they were by the kings of Kadamalayam. In compliance with this request, they were then exempted from the succession fee. But then it was the custom that when a Konkani died without heirs, his property was taken charge of jointly by the Raja’s officers and the representatives of the Konkanis and divided into equal parts one of which went into the royal treasury and the other to the temple of Tirumaldeva. This custom shall be observed in future also." (Travancore Archaeological Series, No. IV & V (1910 ed.) T.D.Gopinath Rao).
