Derivation of Konkani:

As Goa formed part of Konkan Desh, the name ‘Konkani’ was applied to their language and also to the people who settled there. It is a fusion of two varieties of Prakrits the Paisachi Prakrit of Punjab and Kashmir and the Magadhi Prakrit of the Aryans of North Bihar.
